The accident happened on Thursday night at UNIZIK junction, Awka, the state capital, when the man failed to use the pedestrian bridge and made his way through the busy major road.
The state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Mr.Sunday Michael Ajayi, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Friday morning.
According to him, the man was knocked down by a hit and run car along the expressway due to his negligence to use the pedestrian bridge.
He urged Nigerians to always make use of bridges to avoid such occurrences.
Abu also noted that the remains of the deceased had been deposited in a nearby mortuary
